Acupuncture As A Treatment for Infertility

As many as 1 in 10 couples suffer from infertility.  This is defined as being unable to conceive a child after 12 months of properly timed intercourse.  When faced with infertility, many people turn to high-tech treatments such as artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization.  Such treatments are very expensive, and not every couple who wishes to have a child is willing, or able, to pay the prices charged by physicians offering such treatments.

There may be other reasons you do not wish to use high-tech methods to achieve pregnancy – religious beliefs, for example.  If you are unable to, or do not wish to, use artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, then acupuncture could be an interesting and appropriate alternative.  Acupuncture is not invasive, and does not require medication, making it a good option for use alongside other medical procedures also.

Acupuncture treatment for infertility: An Alternative or Complement For Other Methods

Acupuncture treatment for infertility is one specific form of acupuncture.  Acupuncture is an ancient treatment that originated in China and is at least 3000 years old. Practitioners insert very thin, specialized needles into key areas of the body.  No one really knows exactly how acupuncture works, but the treatment has been advocated for a range of illnesses, from depression and stress reduction to infertility.
