If you’re pregnant, the last thing you probably thought you’d have to deal with is acne.  But acne during pregnancy is actually quite common.  Your body is undergoing immense hormonal changes during pregnancy, which is what causes the acne.  This is the same reason that acne is so common during the teenage years, when children begin to take on adult hormones.  The good news about pregnancy acne is that it’s temporary, and will generally subside when you’re pregnancy has come to its full term.

Dealing With Pregnancy Acne

Even though pregnancy acne is temporary, there are some things you can do to help control it.  By all means, you should avoid taking oral medication for your acne, as this medication will have seriously detrimental effects on your baby.  In fact, most oral medications require by law that any woman taking them is on birth control to ensure that no fetuses are harmed.  So your best options to control your acne are topical solutions, like face washes, lotions and gels.

Getting At The 3 Root Causes Of Acne

September 12th, 2009 admin Posted in Acne 1 Comment »

Acne has been assigned a number of different causes, some direct and others less direct. Among the direct causes of acne are three main processes or agents: high level of skin oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Indirectly influencing the development of acne are factors like stress, unbalanced diet, lack of cleanliness etc.

Skin Oil

Excess of skin oil is the root cause of acne. Sebaceous glands present in the skin, beneath its surface, produce natural oil called sebum that lubricates and softens the skin and hair. With the onset of adolescence, the level of hormones peak in the blood. One effect of this rush of hormones is the excessive activity of sebaceous glands, pouring out large volumes of sebum. Accumulation of sebum would ultimately block the skin pores and favor the growth of microbes like bacteria. Oil may be artificially added to the skin by means of make up i.e. in cosmetics, creams etc. If it is washed away effectively, it can penetrate and build up beneath the skin surface.

For these people, it can often be hard to confront other people for fear of being judged. If You Don’t Follow These Acne Skin Care Tips, You’ll hate Yourself Later

August 28th, 2009 Darlyn Posted in Acne, Skin Care No Comments »

Anyone who gets acne knows that he or she needs to handle the skin, at least the affected areas, with care. Acne skin care demands learning and practicing techniques and habits for preventing pain and keeping the condition from getting worse. Following is a guide on taking better care of your skin if acne is thwarting your ease.

Washing

With acne you must wash your skin gently in the morning, evening, and anytime after a heavy exercise that causes sweating. Avoid scrubbing your skin and using strong chemicals or detergents for washing. Use warm water for washing your face. It loosens the dirt on the skin and closed pores.

Shaving

Guys with acne who shave should take special acne skin care by testing electric and safety razors for maximum comfort. In case of safety razors, the blade should be sharp and the area to be shaved should be softened by washing with soap and water prior to applying shaving cream.

Exposing The Three Biggest Acne Prevention Myths

August 25th, 2009 Darlyn Posted in Acne 2 Comments »

If you’re trying to control your acne, don’t fall prey to some common acne prevention myths.  The more informed you are about what causes your acne the better off you will be in controlling/preventing it.  Here are the 3 most common acne prevention myths to help get you started on the right foot.

Chocolate

Many sources have cited that eating chocolate causes breakouts.  But the truth is that there isn’t any scientific evidence that suggests that chocolate causes acne breakouts.  Perhaps the implication is that if you’re eating a diet high in junk foods your skin will not be in the best shape possible, but chocolate has gotten a bad rap as far as acne prevention is concerned.  In moderation chocolate will not cause your acne to flare up.  Just make sure you’re eating a healthy diet, and you can still enjoy some chocolate every now and again.
