Do You Know The Different Causes of Sleep Disorders?

March 3rd, 2010 admin Posted in Sleep Deprivation No Comments »

There are many causes of sleep disorders today and anyone that suffers from chronic and consistent insomnia would do well to consider if any of these are applicable in their own case.  A consistent lack of sleep doesn't just feel bad, it's very bad for one's health.

Going without sleep regularly or having poor quality sleep can lead to headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, poor blood circulation, heart disease, brain damage, lack of concentration, drowsiness, fatigue, slow metabolism, and has been associated with certain forms of cancer and even premature death.  Understanding the causes of sleep disorders is very important because in order to fix the problem it's necessary to understand what has caused that problem in the first place.

Very often the causes of sleep disorders are brought on by the person himself or herself.  A poor sleep environment can cause physical pain and discomfort and this makes it very difficult to get to sleep and to stay asleep.  You might not consider a lumpy mattress and stuffy or overly warm room as being actual causes of sleep disorders but you'd be surprised how often these things affect a person's quality of sleep.

3 Easy Choices To Look Good, Feel Good, And Strengthen Your Immune System!

February 16th, 2010 Darlyn Posted in Daily Affirmations, Women's Health 1 Comment »

I choose to eat nutritious foods, exercise regularly, and avoid contaminants that can harm my body. These three choices help me look good, feel good, and strengthen my immune system to deter diseases.

When I eat right, I feed my body what it craves for optimum performance. I take the time to plan in advance so I can eat healthy meals at home. Just a little bit of planning keeps away the temptation to pick up fast food in a hurry.

I find it easy to get plenty of exercise. When I can take the elevator or the stairs, I choose the stairs. When I take a break from my work, I go for a short walk outside to get moving and enjoy some fresh air. When I am at home, I am sure to spend plenty of time playing with my children and pets. This gives us all some healthy exercise!

January 15th, 2010 admin Posted in Weight Loss 1 Comment »

After a long holiday season of indulging in delicious foods, you committed to your health and fitness goals for 2010.  At the start of the New Year was the perfect time to do it.  Many people use New Year’s resolutions as a way to make goals.  However, by the time Valentine’s Day comes along, most of those same people have thrown their resolutions out the window.  Sounds familiar?

So, now that we are two weeks into the New Year, are  you still on track with your weight loss New Year's resolution?  If so, CONGRATS!!  Stick with it.  If not,  you may be asking yourself how you can commit not just for a few weeks, but also for the rest of the year?  These 5 steps will help!

1. Write It Down.  People have the best success with goal setting when they write down their goals.  Just thinking about a goal isn’t enough – writing it down gives a sense of permanence.

2. Be Specific.  Instead of starting off the New Year with a resolution to finally lose that weight this year, be more specific.  Determine how much weight you’d like to lose exactly.  Then work backwards from your end goal.  How much will you need to lose each month to make your goal?

What Everybody Ought To Know About The Flu Virus

January 9th, 2010 admin Posted in Influenza 1 Comment »

The flu is as old as humans have been on this earth – and it is the same today as it was eons ago.  They say that you can contact a flu virus only once in your life, i.e. you never repeat falling sick due to the same virus twice. Counting from the times I fell sick due to cold and flu only, I am horrified to even think how many of these viruses are around us.

The flu virus usually spreads most commonly to hands contact, and not as it is commonly believed through sneezing and contaminated air. Usually a person sneezes on the papers they have in front of them, or on the hand. Then he/she gives you the paper or shakes hands with you – and bingo the flu virus is crawling all over you. Now you have to do is put your hand to you eyes, nose or mouth and the virus is inside your body. There is nothing than can be done.

Deciphering Influenza Symptoms: Is It Just A Cold Or The Flu?

January 4th, 2010 Darlyn Posted in Influenza No Comments »

Don’t look now, but cold and flu season is right at your door! Every year, it is the same dilemma. Is that nasal congestion and cough due to a common cold, or are they really symptoms of influenza? Sometimes it is indeed hard to tell the difference. A severe cold can cause about as much misery as a mild case of the flu.

The concern is that influenza symptoms can progress to cause more serious medical complications, while colds generally fade away on their own. That is why it is a good idea to learn to make the distinction between whether it is a common cold or a flu bug that is biting you!

What The Flu Looks Like

Influenza symptoms generally come on rather suddenly, while colds can take their time making an appearance. A fever is a consistent influenza symptom, and it can spike quite high, making the infected person rather miserable. Fevers can come and go, and measure as high as 106 degrees Fahrenheit, especially at the onset of the illness. Children and younger adults tend to run higher fevers.

Who Else Wants A Good Diet For Weight Loss?

January 2nd, 2010 admin Posted in Weight Loss 1 Comment »

There are a lot of different options if you are trying to come up with a good diet for weight loss. Creating a diet for weight loss is one of the very first things that you are going to need to do when starting a weight loss program. Remember that everyone is different and so the diet that you should be creating will probably be at least a bit different than the one your friends who are also trying to lose weight use.

Before you start on a diet for weight loss, the best thing to do is to take note of your state of health now. This is perhaps the biggest problem of all.  Why?  Because many people think that they are eating a relatively health diet and are unaware of the  unhealthy  things that  they eat ( and drink) each day!

Answers To All Your Burning Questions About The Influenza Shot

December 27th, 2009 admin Posted in Influenza 1 Comment »

Every year around the end of the autumn you are encouraged to consider taking the influenza shot in order to ensure that you don’t get the virus during the cold winter months or for the next year to come. Let us explore how the influenza shot works and what it actually contains.

How Does The Influenza Shot Work?

Are You Causing Your Own Sleep Disturbances?

December 23rd, 2009 admin Posted in Sleep Deprivation 1 Comment »

Doctors today classify over 80 types of sleep disturbances or disorders.  While some are very rare and are not likely to affect anyone in the general population, some are actually very common and interrupt sleep constantly.  It's believed that about 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. suffer from chronic and consistent sleep disturbances.   While some are the result of genetic defects or physical problems and may need the intervention of a doctor, some are actually being caused by the patient himself or herself.

As an example, physical pain often causes many sleep disturbances, both an inability to get to sleep and being awakened many times during the night as well.  Back pain is a common problem that interferes with sleep and yet many people not only neglect to take care of their back, they also put unnecessary stress and strain on it as well.  Slouching over a desk or lifting heavy groceries, sporting equipment, and children all day puts tremendous amount of stress on the back.

7 Easy Tips To Become Fabulously Fit In 2010

December 21st, 2009 Darlyn Posted in Weight Loss No Comments »

Each year millions of people make the resolution to get fit.  Unfortunately this idea only lasts until February.  This year you can make the difference.  This article is all about showing you the easiest ways to jump-start your fitness!

Incorporate fitness into your everyday life.

1. Park a couple houses down from your front door.  This is similar to that old concept of finding a far parking spot at the mall.  Why not find a far parking spot at home?  That extra 25 feet will add up quick over a week!

2. Look for the hard way.  Stairs instead of elevators, get your own stuff from the kitchen instead of asking your kids to do it.  What about canceling delivery service and picking up your own dry cleaning or groceries.
