Security cameras are very popular these days, coming in many shapes and sizes.  The wired types can fit in speakers, clocks, and even smoke detectors.  The wireless types on the other hand are far more flexible and can be placed nearly anywhere.  Wireless security systems are a great addition to any home or business, as they can be placed in areas that a thief wouldn’t even begin to suspect. Home Security Accessories: What Exactly Do You Need?

December 7th, 2007 admin Posted in Home Security 1 Comment »

If you are concerned about the safety of your family at home ( as we all are), you  might be asking yourself what home security accessories you should purchase. You may be considering buying your cameras, door and window monitors, and an alarm system.   That should just about do it,  right?  Well…maybe.

Truth of the matter is, there are some home security accessories that are very  inexpensive, easy to install, and could make a major difference between a successful break in and a thwarted intruder.  Curious?   Now that I have your attention let us take a look at some helpful home security accessories.

Let us start with the basics.  For instance,  a sliding chain on all of your outside doors.  Don’t just brush off this idea as useless or a waste of time.  The sliding chain may seem like a useless home security accessory but the reality is that it is just one more thing an intrude would have to go through to get into your house.

You can also find some sliding bolt extra door locks on the market  that are the same concept as a chain but it is a strong bolt that slides across and secures the door.   These simple home security accessories would frustrate amy would be intruder.

Think about it.   An intruder may be able to pick the lock on the doorknob and the dead bolt, but  they  cannot get to a sliding bolt because it is on the inside and there is nothing they can do about it.  These home security accessories are cheap and easy to install and can help keep intruders out.

Don’t Forget To Bolt The Windows

Window locks make excellent home security accessories because the only way an intruder is getting past a window lock is to break the window and that will probably make a lot of noise.  Most intruders are frustrated and scared off by things such as window locks.  Once again they are inexpensive home security accessories to purchase and easy to install.  You may also want to put peep holes in your doors as well although these are rendered useless by a simple piece of black tape.  But still some people prefer these as the ultimate home security accessories.

Another idea to  deter intruders is to dig pits at the side windows and fill the pits with a sludge or something else.  You would then hide the pits with a soft covering or simply plant flowers around it.  If an  intruder tries to get in through the window, he would think  twice when they find themselves almost knee deep in a sludge of unknown origin that could start to smell a lot like fertilizer and water mixed together.

Home security can be a “nasty” business.  But if you have limited financial resources, need to find inexpensive home security accessories that work.  It’s the safety of your family and loved ones that we are talking about here!

Home Security Doors: What Are Your Options?

December 1st, 2007 admin Posted in Home Security No Comments »

Demand creates supply!  These are basic laws of economics.  The increase in demand for home security measures has led to the development and supply  of a wide variety of home security doors.   So if you are looking for an inexpensive way to boost your home security, investing  in some home security doors is a good idea.

If you are imagining your home looking like a bank vault, you can put that concern to rest.  Adding a home security door doesn’t mean that your house has to end up looking like a bank vault. There are security doors available today that are both aesthetically pleasing while at the same time much harder to break into.  Rest assured that you can  maintain the beauty of your home.

Since the idea behind home security doors is to make it more difficult to get through, obviously the door has to be stronger and more durable. These doors are available in a number of different materials. Steel and heavy wood are the most common of these.

Okay…maybe you just don’t have the means to purchase a home security door or perhaps you are simply intent on sticking with a wooden door.  In that case, make sure it is of solid construction, preferably made of oak or some other strong type.  Avoid purchasing laminate or hollow core doors.  These are really easy to break through, even if they are locked up tight.   You need to make sure that the type of wood you use for your door is able to withstand pounding or kicking.

Steel is probably the material of choice when it comes to home security doors. Obviously, even the strongest of woods will not give you the security of a steel door. Steel security doors can also be molded into many different designs to fit in with the look of your home. The idea behind this is to make a security door that doesn’t look like a security door.

For instance, you can have a door with glass windows.  These can  be made more secure with special glass or a system of bars over the windows.  You wil be surprised at how many options there are for arranging the bars in a way that is quite decorative and attractive.  Making your home a center of beauty as well as a secure fortress.  The best of both worlds!  Wouldn’t you agree?

Home Security Doors: A Better Way To Protect Your Home And Loved Ones

November 2nd, 2007 Darlyn Posted in Home Security No Comments »

Times are surely changing, and it seems for the worse. Unless you’re living under a rock somewhere, you most certainly will agree that the direction our society has gone over the last several years and continues to go, is not a good one. Crime rates are up just about every where around the globe. From small island nations to industrialized and crowded cites. With such a trend, its is easy to understand why people (including me) have begun locking their doors even when they are home. More and more people are making home security a priority these days. Rightfully so.

There was a time when a person could feel relatively safe just by locking their doors. In recent years, however, people have begun to take added measures to beef up the security of their homes. One of the first places to start addressing your security needs is the most obvious entry point of your home – the doors. You can give yourself added peace of mind and safety for your family by adding home security doors.

What’s So Special About Home Security Doors?

If you think you are as safe by simply locking or dead bolting your standard doors, then you need to think again. The reality is that your standard door may not be enough to stop a determined intruder. Depending on what you have, or what the intruders are after, you may need to take a second look at just how “secure” your main points of entry (i.e. your doors) really are.

Even if your locks are being utilized, how hard do you think it would be for a burglar to blast right through your wooden front door, especially if it is one of the many doors that have windows in it. With the right tools, an intruder could easily splinter your door, or simply pry the deadbolt out and reach right in. When you begin to think about these things, it makes more sense than ever to consider home security doors.

You will sleep a lot better at night knowing you have taken that extra precaution to secure your family and your home.
