Woman Snoring: No…It’s Not Limited To Men

April 30th, 2008 Darlyn Posted in Stop Snoring No Comments »

A recent study on snoring revealed that the notion that snoring is mostly a male problem is an incorrect one.   The study surveyed women, and found that 19% of the women surveyed admitted to snoring.

Further studies are being conducted.  Snoring is often an indicator of an underlying problem, such as obstructive sleep apnea, where the sufferer's airways become blocked while they are asleep, making them unable to breathe.  Sleep apnea sufferers wake up several times during the night because of this, leaving them tired during the day.  If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to a heart attack or a stroke. Snoring Can Indicate Other Issues

Snoring can be an indicator of other health problems – including obstructive sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea is a condition which can be fatal if left untreated, as it restricts breathing – the sufferer has to work harder to breathe at night, and may find themselves waking up at night to breathe – even if they do not realize that they are awake.  An anti-snoring device may prevent some of the noise, but will not solve the underlying problem. Common Snorers & Their Bed Partners Need Anti Snoring Remedies

February 11th, 2008 Darlyn Posted in Stop Snoring No Comments »

Anyone who snores may be constantly on the lookout for any remedy that might help.  Those who sleep with someone who snores may be even more motivated to find anti-snoring remedies, so that everyone can get a good night's rest. Over the years many contraptions and medications have been touted as the perfect anti snoring device, and while some may work sometimes, it is hard to find one that works all the time.

But why do people snore in the first place?  When a person falls asleep, their body becomes completely relaxed. Typically, when they breathe the soft tissue in the upper palate will vibrate causing the noise known as snoring. Truth is, just  about everyone snores occasionally.  However  about 45 million people suffer from severe snoring.  And perhaps we should double that number since their  bed partners suffer right along with them.   No wonder that are so eager to find  snoring remedies.

While snoring can be an incredibly sleep-depriving distraction for the bed partner, it may be even more worrisome for the snorer.  Severe snoring could  be a sign of a serious medical condition known as obstructive sleep apnea. Snoring is a loud (sometimes VERY loud) reminder that someone is having difficulty breathing while they sleep. The obstruction is depriving them of air and they typically will partially awaken during the night to breathe. Sometimes they will wake up hundreds of times during the night and have no memory of their sleep being disrupted.

If you snore, it may be time to take a closer look at anti-snoring remedies, if not for your own health, then at least for your sleep deprived bed partner, who suffers right along with  you!

Are There Any Effective Anti Snoring Remedies Out There?

December 28th, 2007 admin Posted in Stop Snoring No Comments »

In many ways, snoring can be compared to the common cold.  As is the case with the common cold, finding an anti snoring device or medication  is on everyone’s mind that lives with someone who snores. While certain devices and some sprays and medications may offer temporary relief, they often mask the bigger problem of sleep disorders. The  Federal Trade Commission has stated clearly that , regardless of what some ads may claim, snoring is not a disease that can be cured. Snoring is a symptom of another, potentially more serious medical condition, and should  be treated by medical professionals.

Small strips that athletes wear over the bridge of their nose to keep nasal passages open have been known to help people breath at night and are often considered as an anti snoring devices. When obstructions block air from getting through the throat, air can still enter the lungs through the nasal passages. Other devices worn include a brace that attaches to the head and keeps the lower jaw slight forward of the upper jaw, also keeping the throat open.

There is no shortage of devices, sprays, and even rings that are worn as anti snoring devices.  Despite all these devices,  the more serious and  potentially dangerous health conditions that result  from sleep apnea must be diagnosed and properly treated.  By all means, if you or someone you love is a severe snorer, chances are there is an underlying condition that needs to be diagnosed and treated promptly.  You  should consult you doctor or sleep center for proper diagnosis.
