Cake design is getting more and more elaborate, but one of the most important parts of the cake is the topper, which can make a big difference to the overall design and theme of the cake.

In the planning of any wedding, there is considerable time and energy spent in the planning of the wedding cake and in locating the perfect wedding cake topper.  Often times, the bride will coordinate the colors of the frosting to match the colors of her own wedding dress (should she not be wearing white), the colors of the bridal party or other surrounding decorations. February 27th, 2008 Darlyn Posted in Weddings No Comments »

Most of us have been to a wedding ceremony.  Without a doubt, the most romantic and significant part of the wedding ceremony is when the couple gets to the “With This Ring” part: the sharing of the wedding vows.  This is the moment when the bride and groom declare their love and commitment to one another through the promises made in their individually spoken vows.  Wedding bands are exchanged as a symbol to the world of the promises made between the bride and groom on this special day.

"With This Ring" : A Tiny Symbol That Is Rich In Tradition

The history of the wedding band is undisputed for its ongoing importance and value in each culture.  It is believed that wedding bands were originally made of strong metals to signify the strength of the vows made during the marriage.  This practice and tradition continues to this day.  In recent years however, many young couples have chosen to have their wedding bands tattooed upon their fingers as a sign of lifelong dedication to one another.  While this idea is growing in popularity, it has not become widespread.  Read the rest of this entry »

February 1st, 2008 admin Posted in Weddings No Comments »

It's a fact that most bridal fashions tend to focus on the dress above everything  else.  However,  there are two other traditional pieces that deserve proper attention:  bridal veils and wedding bouquets.  Wedding bouquets in particular must also be considered when you’re dealing with all the little details of putting together a wedding.

Why pay special attention to your choice of  wedding bouquets?  Because they  can make a statement, good or bad, and will therefore require a little thought when you purchase them.  By narrowing your choices in wedding bouquets to a few simple questions to consider, then you will find it easier to narrow down the field of wedding bouquets to choose from.

Should You get Silk or Real Flowers?

One consideration that you’ll need to make when selecting wedding bouquets is whether to use real or silk flowers.  Both have distinct advantages and disadvantages.  One great advantage of real flowers,  is that they have a wonderful fragrance and look great too.  Real flowers have a soft texture, and are the more traditional choice among brides.

On the other hand, silk flowers weigh less, which means you’ll have less tired arms at the end of your ceremony.  Another important advantage of silk flowers is that they do not require refrigeration and can be purchased well before the wedding.  This means that last-moment mishaps can be reduced to an absolute minimum.  Which advantages are important to you will boil down to a matter of personal choice.  Either way,  wedding bouquets certainly should the "center piece" of your wedding day!

Tips You Need To Know For Ordering Your Wedding Cake

January 13th, 2008 admin Posted in Weddings No Comments »

When you go to a  baker to choose and order your wedding cake, he will need to know a few things.  In addition to the style of cake you want for your wedding, you will need to let  the baker know the following important information: the date and time of the reception, the flavor of the cake, the flavor of the frosting, the number of  guests to be served, and which topper is finally chosen.

The flavors can be decided quite easily by tasting what the bakers have available.  A new trend is to offer as many flavors of cake as there are layers to the wedding cake.  The date and time of the wedding is important because certain types of cake (like ice cream) or frosting (such as cream cheese) may not hold up as well in warm temperatures.

Finalizing the number of guests who will be invited to the wedding is also important when choosing your wedding cake.  The total guest count will  dictate the number of layers of the cake as well as the size of the layers.  Any good baker will have a cake chart for you to view and pick the best choice you’re your wedding cake.

One more thing! Remember to order a small top layer of wedding cake to keep in the freezer.  That's just for the two of your  to share later when the frenzy is over!

Presenting The Wedding Cake: Your Reception Centerpiece

December 22nd, 2007 admin Posted in Weddings No Comments »

What's the first thing people see when entering a wedding  reception hall?  It's  usually the wedding cake, isn't it?  Usually wedding cakes consist of three or more layers with a decorative topper, so it's hard to miss the display if it's located at a central point at the reception hall.   The cake would be frosted in white with tasteful decorations, and taste even better than it looks.

For a bride and groom choosing the right wedding cake can seem difficult; there are so many sizes, styles, flavors and toppers that it can seem impossible to decide.  Fortunately, there is lots of help available to make the task of choosing a cake much easier.  Many bakers have a portfolio of cakes they have made in the past as well as catalogs of wedding toppers and even more design ideas.

Another good thing is that many bakers will allow the bride and groom (or the bride and some close chosen friends or family members) to taste each flavor of cake and icing to be able to pick the flavors they enjoy the most.  So if you are watching your waistline in order to fit into your dress, you may want to delegate this wedding cake tasting responsibilities to someone else!  

Wedding Bouquets: Which Bouquet Design is Right For You?

December 20th, 2007 admin Posted in Weddings No Comments »

There is no shortage of  designs for wedding bouquets out there.  You can easily find a good bouquet designer to work with you to find the one that matches perfectly wit you wedding and your dress.  Some designs, such as nosegays are compact; featuring tight clusters of flowers, making for a pretty presentation and clean lines for what is essentially a work of art.  Other designs, such as a traditional cascade bouquet are larger and make a bigger statement as part of the entire wedding ensemble.

When it comes to choosing the design that will work best for you, you need to consider several things.  For instance, the best wedding bouquet design will depend on the style of your wedding as well as the style of your dress.  If you’re planning a very traditional wedding, then you want to look for wedding bouquets that are just as traditional.  On the other hand, if you’re planning a wedding that is more contemporary, wedding bouquets that add a little more flair will work well for you.  Some wedding bouquets even feature a single, large flower, thus making a bold statement.

At the end of the day,  it all boils down to what you feel comfortable with.  After all,  it’s your special day, so you should choose from wedding bouquets that appeal to you and fit the style that you’ve set for your wedding.  Hopefully, it wont be long before you find something that will fit perfectly for that special day when you say "I do".

How To Choose A Destination Wedding Location

December 9th, 2007 admin Posted in Weddings No Comments »

Where would you like to get married?  The entire globe is your backyard.  At least, if money and time are not limiting factors.    Some very popular locations are : Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas, or an island in the Caribbean.  These are all  great options.
However, for the American bride, there are also many options for destination weddings that are much closer to home.  For instance, you could select a nice location in the southern states and experience southern mansions for the wedding.   For the more extravagant, there are always options such as the large romantic cities of  Paris and of course, New York.

Some people may want a wedding in a mountain area and there are many beautiful locations such as Jackson Hole, Wyoming or the Pocono’s which would provide nice locales. Considering a beach wedding?  You don’t need to go to the islands.   Florida and the gulf coast of the United States offer scenic beaches with great facilities.

Plan For The Weather

One critical factor to take into considering when  choosing a destination wedding location is the time of year you plan to get married and weather conditions on your preferred wedding destination.  If the Caribbean or Mexico is your ideal choice then you need to be aware of the hurricane season which runs from August through November.  Take this into consideration and plan accordingly.   The last  thing you need is for your dream wedding to get cancelled or disrupted by a category five hurricane.

Even though it is cheaper to travel to these locations during the hurricane season, it would not be very nice to have a wedding in a hurricane ( unless you are the adventurous types).

For June weddings,  Las Vegas may not be the best choice.  It is very hot in Las Vegas during the summer, so bear this in mind if Las Vegas is your first choice for your destination wedding.

Simple common sense and proper planning  will help you pick the best location for the date you plan to get married.  In the end, your main goal should be to ensure that the destination wedding is  a charming and memorable experience for everyone involved…especially for you!  After all it is your special day.
